ColorClad® Frequently Asked Questions
Are YOUR colors consistent from batch to batch?
We manufacture the Core Colors™ in larger batches, not a pint or quart at a time.
When tinting with concentrated pigments, the larger the batch the easier it is to produce an accurate color, even with state of the art equipment. Plus the Core Colors™ are very basic colors making them very reproducible.
Will MY colors be consistent from batch to batch?
By field mixing "pre-diluted", finished product your batch to batch variation in color will be undetectable to the human eye, with very little effort.
Must I mix a whole pint at a time.
Mix only the amount you think you will need. If you guess wrong, just make a little more.
What is the shelf life?
At least 2 years when properly stored.
Keep the container tightly sealed and away from temperature extremes. Protect from freezing. Storing the containers upside down will reduce skinning.
What if it does freeze?
Bring the ColorClad® back to room temperature and thoroughly mix with the paddle in a drill (not just shaking). Spread a small amount on to a smooth surface and check that the product is still smooth, thick and uniform in color. If so, it is OK to use. The product can handle a few freeze/thaw cycles but it is best to avoid any at all.
Can I match ANY color with the Core Colors?
The Core Colors™ were formulated to produce the range of colors used for tile grout about 99% of the time. You won't be able to make novelty colors like lemon yellow, cherry red or lime green. The Color Selection Guide is a great reference of colors that can be produced using simple ratios of just 2 Core Colors at a time. Keep it simple. Use the Color Selection Guide (not a wall paint chart or any other 3rd party color) to pick a color that compliments the floor, making minor adjustments if needed.
Why is ColorClad® so thick?
ColorClad® is a true restoration product, not just a colorant or stain.
The heavy body allows it to fill minor cracks and voids in the grout as you colorseal. The heavy body also makes for easier application to vertical joints and better hiding overall. The Core Color™ system lets us build in a very high pigment concentration allowing you to thin the product (about 5% with clean water) if you prefer a lower viscosity product, yet still provide one coat coverage for almost any job.
